Park Lakes Bli Bli

Many have commented about the recent developments at Park Lakes Wetland at Bli Bli. The developers have seen fit to replace what was initialy an outstanding example of what could be achieved ecologically within a residential development - specifically a wetland with a variety of zones from mud edge to reed beds to open water - with an ecologicaly dead duck pond!!

Greg Roberts has written more on the subject at his blog which can be found here;  http://sunshinecoastbirds.blogspot.com.au/2016/01/parklakes-wetland-down-drain.html#comment-form

I have written to the developers and if you wish to lend your voice to a protest you can do so via;  info@parklakes.com.au

Birds in a recently flooded section of Finland Road [M. Overend]
New Site - Bli Bli Area – Meet at Muller Park, across the Maroochy River from the Bli Bli IGA Shopping Centre at 7am. Leader – Ken Cross.

Tawny Grassbird [M. Overend]
We will begin by having a stroll around this area before reducing the number of vehicles and visiting a few sites in and around the nearby Finland Road. This is an area of wetlands, grasslands, melaleuca woodlands with a corresponding good mix of species. It is an area often good for raptors in addition to grassland species such as Golden-headed Cisticola and Tawny Grassbird. There is an option to hang around for a breakfast BBQ after bird call at Muller Park.

Birding afterwards at Parklakes, Bli Bli and / or the Wetland Sanctuary are options.
All of the accompanying pictures have been taken this year in the Finland Road area.

Bird Pics 2015

The following photos have been lifted from our Facebook Page and all are pics from members taken in 2015.
This year the competition continues.....
Birdlife Sunshine Coast 2016, may be of interest to birders, naturalists etc here on the Sunshine Coast Qld. The description is as follows; Participants are encouraged to post pics of Sunshine Coast birds [taken in 2016 only] and title them with ONLY a number and the location. It is for other members to identify the bird species. Using this approach participants are encouraged to get as many ‘clicks’ for the year as possible [and folks will see as much of the Sunny Coast as possible]. Discussions on Bird Id hopefully will occur and members will also learn of new birding locales. Sunshine Coast extends from Rainbow Beach in the north to Bribie Island in the south and west to, say, Kilcoy.... Any arguments will result in me losing. Tthe emphasis is on quantity rather than quality! The winner will recieve nothing save the respect of the other members...

The photos below do not respect the emphasis on quantity over quality [to show that I would print my photos]. Enjoy.
